The top fun and easy hobbies

We might be past the deadline for new years resolutions, but there’s never a bad time to try something new. It can be so easy to just sit in front of the TV or sit on your phone after work. You can passively pass the time until it’s time to go to bed.
However, there is a world of different things to try out there. Even if you don’t think you’re particularly creative, there are a load of new hobbies you could try out – and maybe even enjoy!
If you’re stuck for ideas, we’ve got you covered. Let’s look at some of the best hobbies you can try out in 2024.
Hobbies to try this year
- Crochet
Tell your friends – crochet is now cool. We saw knitting make a comeback into the mainstream and rid itself of the associations with old people. And now crochet is doing the same.
We’ve all seen the crochet tops and other clothing items in the shops, but they come with a hefty price tag. You save a load of money if you just take up doing it yourself. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials to help you get started.
It’s a great thing to do while you watch TV or listen to some music. Instead of scrolling endlessly through your phone, you can do something fun and make new clothes at the same time.
Your new hobby might even turn into a new career! Who knows what hobby might reveal a hidden talent.
- Gaming
Gaming is another great hobby to get into if you’re not a fan already. There has been such a development in the gaming world, that there is something for everyone to get involved with.
Online gaming means that you can play along with friends or make new ones as you play. There are loads of different games to choose from, and you don’t need a fancy console to get started.
You can play poker online if you want to practise your card gaming skills and test your wits again others. Or you could try something new like a first person shooter if you’re wanting more of an adrenaline rush. Whatever your interests are, you can guarantee that there’s a game to play that fits right in.
- Learn an instrument
This hobby will require a certain level of dedication in order to get it going – but it’s well worth it. One of the biggest regrets people have is not learning an instrument when they were younger. But why not start now?
Practice makes perfect when it comes to learning anything but that is especially true when trying to learn an instrument. Of course, not everyone is a natural musician so there will be some bumps along the way.
Setting a goal can help you to achieve it. If you aim towards achieving a certain goal in a set time frame, you’re more likely to reach that goal.
- Team sports
If you fancy getting more active and getting outside more, why not consider joining a sports team. There are always teams looking for players in your local area so it’s well worth a look around.
There are local running clubs to get involved with if you fancy challenging yourself to doing a 5km. You could also look into football teams or tennis clubs. Why not take a look at your local community centre notice board – if you have one.
If not, there are always Facebook groups that have local information on them. Ask around with friends and family and see if they know anyone who’s involved in team sports.
It’s a great way to make friends and stay fit at the same time. Sports are a great way to keep your mental health in check as well – perfect for the winter months.
- Gardening
If you don’t fancy getting muddy on a sports field, but do want to get out in the fresh air, gardening could be a good compromise. It’s a relaxing way to get back into nature and reconnect with the world around you.
Obviously, this works best if you have a garden at your disposal. But if not, there are alternative ways to get involved in the outdoors. If you live in a city, there are lots of community gardens that you can help out at.
This usually involves helping out with the general weeding and tidying of the gardens, as well as helping with the planting in the spring. There are even community gardens with animals that you can help look after.
If you have a balcony, you could even lend your hand to some DIY and make some boxes to grow plants or vegetables in. There’s nothing more organic than growing your own vegetables – or satisfying.
No matter what kind of hobby you’re looking to get into, there’s one out there for everyone. Which hobby do you think you’ll add to your list?
